An under-strength 18s outfit travelled to the Gold Coast on Sunday to take on premiership favourite Surfers Paradise. Missing 5 of their starting 18 it was always going to be a tough ask.
A slow start saw Surfers pull away to a 5 goal lead at quarter time and a demoralising loss looked certain. However, the entire side lifted in the second quarter and managed to break even for the quarter.
The last half saw Surfers Paradise pull away with strong running and numbers around the ball. A couple of late goals blew the margin out to over 60 points.
Ruckman Steve Webster was best on ground with three goals and midfielder Gui Crane wasn't too far behind him with another dominating performance through the middle.
The backline display led by co-captain Stuart McCristal and running half-back James Gundry was promising as they were continually challenged by the Surfers Paradise forwards.
With the possibility of 4 of the 5 missing players returning this weekend a victory away to second place Redlands is a very real possibility.
