The Kenmore Bears kick of their 2007 campaign this weekend in one of the most highly anticipated matches in the clubs' history.
Robina, Kenmore's opponents this weekend, were the last side to be promoted from Division 2 before Kenmore were elevated this season.
The Bears will go into the match underdogs having only played one full game since last year's Grand Final victory in September.
With this in mind and the step up in division, Kenmore on-baller Greg Stirling doesn't expect it to be as easy going as it was last season.
Robina have had a whole season in division 1. All their players will have improved and they know what to expect now. If we can get within 10 goals on Saturday we'll be happy."
It's going to be a hard season for everyone at the club, but that's what we expected when we applied to move up. If we can set a good platform for the years to come we will have done our job."
The reserves season also begins on Saturday against Robina and after the strong showing they put up against Yeronga, they will be hoping for a winning start to the year.
Ash Jamieson, one of the reserves big improvers during 2006, will be eager to impress his new coach on Saturday and hopefully help his side get over the line.
In just his third season at Kenmore, Jamieson has missed just one pre-season training and will hoping to find the form he displayed last season which won him his first berth in the senior side.
Jamieson has high hopes for the weekend.
"After our performance against Yeronga with a number of guys out we are extremely confident that we can put up a good showing on Saturday. It's been a long, hard pre-season; I just can't wait to finally get out there.
