Sandringham player Adam Fisher has won the 2004 Fothergill-Round Medal. This medal is awarded to the most promising young talent in the VFL competition who is believed to have the most potential to reach the AFL. It was first awarded in 1989 and won by Aaron Davey in 2003.
The medal is awarded in honour of Des Fothergill (Williamstown) and Barry Round (Williamstown) who are the only players to win both the J.J. Liston Trophy and the Brownlow Medal.
Adam Fisher was captain of the Victoria Country side at the 2002 National AFL under-18 Championships. He was taken at number 11 in the rookie draft by Melbourne and managed 14 games in Sandringham's seniors last year. Best suited in a midfield role he has played all year at Sandringham in a season personally marked for consistency, averaging around 20 possessions a game.
In his 31 career games for Sandringham he has kicked 27 goals. He has performed mainly as an on-baller and has been noted for his hardworking, in-and-under style of play. Fisher has been vital in winning clearances and getting the ball out of the pack this year, assisting the forwards by moving the ball down the field.
His achievements were rewarded with selection in the VFL state squad that flew to Perth in June. While not the fastest player on the field, he compensates with his determination and attack on the ball. His willingness to learn and continually work at his game has impressed his coaches and he will be working hard in the finals to be elevated from the rookie list at the conclusion of this season.
Congratulations Adam!
