The Directors, Management, Staff, Coaches and Players of the Coburg Football Club are saddened by the passing of Robert Atkinson.

Robert Charles Atkinson was born on October 29, 1913 at Coburg to John Percy Atkinson and Alice Mabel (nee Hill).
`Bomber' Atkinson playing weight was 12 stone 8 pounds (80 kg) and his height was 5' 8" (173 cm) he was recruited to Coburg from South Camberwell.
Bomber' was one of the Clubs great players playing 110 games from 1935 - 1941.
From 1942 - 1944 he also managed to play 44 games with Carlton becoming their Captain in 1944 while the VFA was in recess during World War II.
Bomber's' leadership returned to Coburg as Captain in 1945 where he played another six games to bring his total games played at Coburg to 116.
During this season despite finishing the home and away season undefeated with 20 wins `Bomber' led the Club through a valiant but unsuccessful finals campaign.
In 2000 `Bomber' was named as back pocket in Coburg's Team of the Century.
Bomber' died peacefully on Christmas Day, 2006 aged 93.
