The North Ballarat Rebels commenced their TAC Cup season with comfortable victory over the NSW / ACT RAMS at the North Ballarat on Saturday.
The Rebels kicked the first 3 goals of the game and were never headed, running out 38 point winners.
A dominant display at Centre Half Forward by 18 year old Adam Campbell helped set up the win. Campbell kicked 5 goals and played a hand in several others. He was well supported up forward by opportunist Ayden George who finished with 4 goals.
Despite winning by more than 6 goals, the Rebels struggled to shake off a persistent RAMS outfit who never gave in. Boasting several first gamers North Ballarat impressed with their attack on the ball and direct style of play.
The Rebels were long and direct for most of the day giving Campbell and full forward Adam Hurse plenty of opportunities.
Ruckman Nathan Anderson was outstanding around the ground, pulling in a number of sensational marks. Defender and 2002 BFL Rookie of the Year Matt Sharkey also impressed. First gamer Ryan Harris and Chris Gardner showed they will be valuable additions with excellent performances.
Although pleased with the first up win, coach Anthony Rock reminded his players there is still plenty of room for improvement.
The Rebels will hope to regain the exciting Dean Chester and fearless Heath Pyke for this week's match against the Murray Bushrangers.
The match at the Northern Oval is a TAC Cup double header with the Bendigo and Geelong to follow.
