Gippsland Power - Media Release
Gippsland Power did not put in its best performance for the year at the weekend narrowly defeating bottom team Sandringham Dragons by five points at Traralgon.
Power went into the game as clear favourites given the standing on the TAC Cup ladder and emerged with the four points but did so in a most unconvincing fashion.
The whole game was a battle of the defences and most of Power's attacking moves were starting from defence as Sandringham were gaining first use from the centre breaks and stoppages around the ground.
The first quarter was a tight affair with the scoreboard showing Gippsland 4.2 to Sandringham 3.2.
The second quarter saw the game open up a little with both sides kicking three goals each however Power's inaccuracy was also a problem seeing the kick seven behinds to lead by twelve points at the long break.
The third term was a real struggle with both sides scoring four goals however it was Sandringham's turn to be inaccurate in front of goal.
The last term saw Power dominate the first half of the quarter but could not convert in front of goal. Sandringham hit the lead late in the final quarter and looked liked winners until Chris Endres bobbed up and kick the winning goal.
Final Scores: Gippsland Power 15 18 108 defeated Sandringham Dragons 15 13 103
Goal Kickers: Nick Heyne 6, Brent Connelly 3, Jack Brown 1, Jed Costigan 1, Chris Endres 1, Brendon Rathnow 1, Beau Vernon 1 and Nick Stockdale 1.
Best Players were Dean Woodhead at Centre half Back, Luke Webber on a half back flank, Nick Heyne at Full Forward, Shane McIntosh at Full Back, Jack Brown on a Wing and Chris Endres at half forward.
