The hard work and preparation has been done and the bell for round 1 will sound from midday Saturday when the Pumas meet last season's premiers Western Magpies.
While with some justification to dismiss the results of their practice games, the Seniors have some way to go to convince supporters that they are a force in this season's AFLQ Pineapple Hotel Cup competition. Western Magpies and Springwood may again be seen as the benchmark teams and the scoreline will give both coaches and players an indication of where they are at early in the season.
Typically torrid affairs in the first round, teams unleash their energies pent up over a long pre-season and desire for early domination. On the back of a suceessful training camp, cross training and better gym facilities, Springwood will look to settle into their patterns and execute their plays to deliver the knockout blow in round 1.
The game will be played at Western Magpies ground at Chelmer and supporters from both clubs will be on hand to witness the opening shots of the competition.
Reserves begin at 12.10 pm and Seniors at 2.00 pm. The Springwood teams for this weekend's game and players' jumper numbers for the season are in the documents below.
Footnote: The photo shows ruckman Kris Scaife flying high ..... literally. It was taken through the lens of Club photographer Peter Trigger and judged as the "Photo of 2006". Peter will be on hand this season to get more great action shots for the website and you will be able to see them in the Club's Photo Album each week.
