It was massive week for Women’s AFL, with the first-ever national draft taking place last Wednesday for the 2017 season. Our Sharks were in the middle of the action and we could not be more proud of the 10 players and one coach who have been selected to join AFL clubs next year.
This is a phenomenal achievement for both these women and the club. East Fremantle headed into Wednesday’s draft with four women already selected to play or coach next year. But the Club’s success doubled when an additional seven players found out they too would be taking part in the inaugural competition.
To see the hard work from everyone involved at the club, coaches, trainers and volunteers, as well as the effort from the girls themselves pay off, is an absolute dream come true for the Sharks.
Next year’s competition will make history, and we can’t wait to watch our Sharks be a part of it.
Training commences for all teams during late November and the players are eager to get started.
The competition will take place in February and March, with the fixtures yet to be released. More information on the competition is available on www.afl.com.au/womens
The Club’s success is only just beginning, as we continue to train and develop the skills of our players, so they too have the opportunity to play football at this level.
We look forward to seeing East Fremantle’s talent on the big screen next year, and hope you will get behind the competition. With Sharks at 4 of the 8 teams, the hardest part will be choosing a side to support!
