As announced earlier in the season, the Dandenong Southern Stingrays will take over the management of the Youth Girls Academies for the 2016/17 pre-season period and beyond.
As off 2017 the Youth Girls program is being sponsored by the TAC so from this time onwards our program will be known as the “Towards Zero Dandenong Southern Stingrays Youth Girls Academy.”
Also, to continue being aligned fully with the Dandenong Southern Stingrays (DSS) talent pathway program all players in the Academy will from this day forward represent Vic Country not Metro, as we now have 12 Towards Youth Girls Academies operating in Victoria.
In 2017 we run two female programs (TAC Cup Squad & Development Squad) over the pre-season period and will be held on Friday nights at Tatterson Park, Springvale for the skill component, and one other night per week to be off site or Shepley Oval, Dandenong for all fitness work. (We have also signed a Major and minor Sponsor for the program, which will be announced shortly through the appropriate media channels)
The TAC Squad will be for girls aged 16 to 18 (born in 2001 to 1999). Similarly to the TAC Cup squad in the boys program, the aim of the TAC squad will be to prepare the players on and off the field so they can reach their highest level of football once they have graduated the program, whether it be AFL, VFL Women’s or Local football.
The TAC Squad will commence pre-Christmas and finish with a final list announced in early March. The squad will play matches against other TAC Regions which will be used for selection for Vic Country.
The Development Squad will be for girls aged 14 and 15 (born in 2003 and 2002). The aim of the Development Squad will be for girls to progress their football skills and understanding so that they give themselves the best possible opportunity to be selected for the TAC squad when they graduate from the Development Squad. The focus will be on skill development and off field management both supported heavily by the Melbourne football Club Next Generation Academy.
The development squad will run in the New Year after the Christmas holidays. It will allow those girls selected to commence their training after our program finishes with the representative squads across the FDJFL, MPJFL & SEJ if selected. Further information on the dates the development program will run will be released to clubs in late January 2017.
2017 TAC Cup Squad Player Selection Process
Throughout the 2016 Season players have been recruited and/or selected for local Leagues (Interleague) and the upcoming V/Line Championships along with local games and finals. This will form the base of our selection, along with those players who were in the 2016 Academy who are still eligible for season 2017.
A list of 90 plus currently exists and if selected, an invite letter to attend an induction night will be sent out after the conclusion of the V/line carnival.
All information regarding the structure and outline for those invited, along with parents will be discussed.
As with the men’s program it gives opportunities for all our local coach’s, trainers and administrators to be involved in the Talent Pathway program so they too can reach their highest desired level.
We are currently seeking EOI for the following roles:
· Head Coach (attached job description)
· Assistant Coach x 3 (attached job description)
· Talent Academy Manager Female (attached job description)
· Fitness Advisor (attached job description)

We look forward building the next team of AFL Woman’s players with support from our local community and partner clubs and Leagues.
