Our courageous captain Jay Phelan led our boys out against St Johns in the Div 2 Grand Final. Going in as underdogs against the competition yardstick, the Bullants drew on all their vast September experience to dominate the game from start to finish.
With the Calcedo brothers electric all over the ground, our defence solid as a rock led by Olsen Clark wearing the dangerous Thornton like a glove, big Nathan Parkes taking contested marks at will, and Matty Holmes, Andre Marcon and Alex Ricco providing plenty of grunt, the boys saluted, leading from start to finish. The scintillating Damon Marcon was awarded with best on ground honours in a grand final, for the second time in his career.
Final scores: Preston Bullants 11.9.75 - St John 9.9.63
Goals: S. Calcedo 3, M. Holmes 3, D. Marcon 3, J. Powell 2
Best: D. Marcon, S. Calcedo, D. Calcedo, N. Parkes, A. Ricco, A. Marcon
Legendary coach George Wakim was the mastermind behind the emphatic victory, but was quick to keep things in perspective by recognising the contribution of recently injured players Reed Jepson, Roland Buttigieg and Christian Poladoras, and paid special tribute to the courageous fight his daughter Maddy displayed throughout the year in her battle with Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
On behalf of the hard working committee, the reserves and U19 boys and the supporters, we would like tocongratulate each of our 2016 Premiership players.
