We travelled to Doncaster knowing they have some quality and very experienced players and perform very well at their home ground.
The first half was an arm wrestle and it was obvious that they were no walk over. We infact struggled to get ourselves in front at half time and the loss of defender Lachlan Carey at the big break was making the task that bit harder.
However we certainly came out with a much tougher attitude and progressively improved the margin out to 30 odd points thanks to the brilliance of Kirby McConnon, the big marks and goals from Ryan Phillips and Joel Perry and the grit and determination of Darcy Crocker. A poor kick out after a behind in the finals seconds of the quarter saw the margin back to 23pts.
Doncaster were not going to lay down and they attacked continually using the wide wings to move the ball down field, and top be honest when they closed the gap to just a point with a few minutes to go, they looked the like the winners. To our credit we found a way to turn the tide, as good sides do.
Kirby McConnon was the clear star. He out marked, out ran and kicked 4 goals in another super display. The opposition did everything to shut down Tommy Schneider, but they could not stop Darcy Crocker, who was terrific. Two defenders who deserve a pat were Matt Willcocks and Tim Johnson .
Now for Balwyn next week
