Maroochydore's Jemma Abbott last night claimed the QWAFA League Best & Fairest Award to cap off a strong night for the club in which Roos players, coaches & volunteers brought home 6 Awards.
Abbott, who is just 17 years old, was also a member of the Queensland Youth Girls Academy this year, is a ball magnet, and very strong overhead for her size. She polled 22 votes to finish 5 clear of her nearest rival, Jindalee's Kate Williams.
Abbott's Coach, Stuart Jackson, was also recognised for the teams undefeated season (and a grand final showdown on Saturday week) by being awarded the Women's Coach of the Year.
But the Awards didn't stop there.....
- AFL Sunshine Coast Hall of Fame Legend and current Roos Senior Assistant Steve Moody was named Youth Talent Coach of the Year.
- Colts Coach Paul Meehan (who will steer his troops in a GF this weekend) was recognised as Colts Coach of the Year.
- Reserve Grade Team manager Jim Beasley was named QFA North Volunteer of the Year for his work across Seniors & Reserve Grade this season.
- Reserve Grade Captain/Coach Dave Hulsman took out the QFA North Reserve Grade Best & Fairest with Midfield teammate Shaun McKenzie finishing second.
- Plus there were a heap of players the polled highly in their respective competitions.
Moreton Bay’s Jonathan Giles and Caloundra’s Thomas Rudolph were named as joint winners of the Duncanson Medal as best and fairest for the QFA North competition with 17 votes. They both finished one vote ahead of Noosa’s Nicholas Hill on 16 votes, while Maroochydore Josh Norman (5th), Daniel Osberger (7th) and Jackson Ryan (10th) feature in the top 10.
Robina’s Boeh Davies took out the Todd medal as the QFA South best and fairest with 26 votes.
