The Melton Football Netball Club can announce the re-appointment of Senior Coach Brad Murphy for the 2017 season in what will be his fourth season as Coach of the club.
Additionally, the leadership group led by Captain Jake Gleeson have all recommitted for the 2017 season.
For Murphy the opportunity to remain as coach of an exciting young list was too good an opportunity to pass up. “I’m pretty excited, I think the group is heading in the right direction and I think we’ve come a long way since I first got here. Our progress has been steady but I think we can go a lot further in the next year or two”.
Football Manager Brad Jamison is pleased with the level of commitment from the playing group. “There’s a lot of players here who started their playing career at the Junior club and have worn the Bloods jumper ever since. The loyalty the playing group have shown to the Melton Football Club is a driving factor for me to work as hard as I possibly can to help get them success. We’ve put solid foundations in place this year and next year will be about building on top of what we’ve started this year”.
Gleeson is one of those loyal juniors who has stuck with the Club since making his senior debut as a 17 year old in 2007. He played a final in that year, but the Club hasn’t been there since. Having been through some lean years since, he’s starting to see a positive future at MacPherson Park and was quick to put pen to paper for 2017. “It was a pretty easy decision, the club has done a good job in developing our young players and they are coming in to the senior team and playing their role, which is creating some good depth in our team. We have no doubt that we are on the right track and I think that is evident by just how quickly everybody was to sign on for another year at the Bloods”.
President Greg Davis emphasised the importance of stability at the Club with the reappointment of Murphy. “He finished his playing career on a good note on the weekend with six goals. Signing for his fourth season as coach gives the club real stability. The leadership group also signing shows the confidence they have that the Club is heading in the right direction”.
Murphy will take the reins as a non-playing coach in 2017 after announcing his retirement as a player following last weekend’s match against North City, ending a playing career which included a four year stint on the Western Bulldogs list. He won the Melton B&F in 2014 and was also named in the BFL Team of the Year in his first season at the club.
