Firstly I would like to welcome those who haven't been involved in the club before to the club and those who are returning, lets all start building towards a successful 2008. After one training session where we had 35 players, it is easy to see that players are already determined to ensure Altona rise up the ladder in 2008. As a group we need to continue to build on these numbers and maintain that passion and drive to get the best out of ourselves.
Off field I have been working hard to secure support staff for season 2008. At current time I have great success in gaining assistance from numerous past players and supporters. In saying this, I am still looking for assistance in a few areas, so that not all duties are always given to the same people. It might involve timekeeping every third week, or escorting umpires at breaks. Whatever it may be, I go by the motto of many hands make like work and anybody interested in giving us a hand throughout the season don't be afraid to contact me on the below number.
Finally I would like to thank the committee of the Altona Football Club for giving me the opportunity to coach again in 2008. Even though I thoroughly enjoyed my time last year as coach it must be said that at the end of the day it was disappointing not to win more games. In 2008 we must improve and the only way this can happen is that everybody sticks together, trains hard and ensures that don't leave any stone unturned. Also remember that you never stop learning and that practice makes perfect.
Cheers
Mark Verberne
