NEWTOWN & Chilwell will be without defender Nelson Browne for Saturday’s crucial clash with St Albans after being found guilty of forceful front-on contact by the AFL Barwon Tribunal.
Browne was yellow carded in the Eagles’ loss to Bell Park for an incident with star Dragon Steve Paulke.
He pleaded not guilty, but in a hearing lasting more than an hour, the tribunal panel, headed by Rob Sodomaco, delivered a guilty verdict and a one-week suspension.
Browne’s advocate Peter Murrihy wasn’t unhappy with the ban.
“One week, I think, is a fair result,” he told reporters following the hearing.
“There was no malice in the incident, but contact was made, so I think leaving here (with) one week (is) good all-round.”
Browne, who made a delayed start to the season due to injury, will be free to return against premiership contender St Mary’s in Round 16.
