Last Saturday the Charlton FC was able to secure two wins from the four games against Donald. Shane Rogan lined up for his 100th Senior game in the Charlton Jumper. It was a disappointing day for the Seniors who went down by 41 points and slipped back to third place on the ladder. The first half saw us play decent, competitive football despite a couple of early key injuries. Both sides were inaccurate early but we managed to take a nine point lead into the main break. The second half was all Donald and they outgunned us going forward, kicking nine goals to three to run out comfortable victors. On a positive note, Anthony Judd made a welcome return to the senior ranks. Our boys will be doing everything possible to find our true form as we go deep into the year.
The Reserves fought out a nailbiter with the Royal Blues and managed to come from behind to claim a nine point win. Trailing by three points at the last break, Kris Clifford kicked a couple of goals in the final term to take his tally to seven and secure the win. James McGrath was busy in his key position roles up forward and in the ruck, while Sean O’Connor gave us plenty of run. Marcus Campbell tackled and competed well across four quarters.
The Under 16’s look to be re-discovering their mojo with the return of some key personell. Trailing by nine points against a quality Donald side, the Navies team work enabled them to kick 8 goals to 1 to run out 38 point victors. Connor Lee worked hard with and without the ball in an impressive display. Matt Sarre, Wally Townsend, Trent Cossar, Charlie Patullo and Nathaniel Holmes Brown were others to impress in an all round team effort which pleased the coach.
Oscar Bourke got on the scoreboard as the only goal kicker for the Under 13’s against the second placed Donald. Our boys again fought the entire game out but couldn’t get over the top of their Royal Blue opponents on this occasion.
