Last game saw us travel over to Boort in glorious winter sunshine. The Seniors jumped out of the blocks well kicking the first six goals of the game through Gunn, McGrath, Giri and Finlay. Unfortunately an injury to Luke Kyriakides coincided with Boort gaining momentum and kicking two late ones in the first term, followed by the next three to claw their deficit back to six points. Two more late in the second helped the Navies maintain a 19 point lead at the main break but our boys were in for a tough one against the determined Magpies. We had nine scoring shots in the third for a return of four goals five. One major was an inspirational leader’s goal from Aaron Walklate who played on in congested traffic and snapped truly to help keep Boort at bay. The last term saw us kick two goals to a behind to secure a gutsy 28 point win. Kieran Sait was instrumental along with Dean McKay in the backline. Tim Nicolson again provided drive with his never say die attitude and work rate while Luke Mulquiny and Shane Rogan displayed hardness at the contests all day. The finishing and poise of Ben Walklate and Tom Finlay was important while Sam O’Connor and Jye Sandiford provided creativity through the middle of the ground. Another positive was the games of Tyson Tauali i, Jason Ainsworth and Jack Thompson, three young players who fulfilled their roles after getting late call ups to the Seniors.
The Reserves lost their second match of the season. It was a tight game with no more than three points separating the two sides at the first three breaks. Turnovers cost Charlton dearly and an accurate and determined Boort side inflicted a 12 point defeat of the Navies at games end. Ryan Moloney racked up touches out of defence while fellow defenders Matt Winsall, Joe Durie and Tyson Watton also impressed.
The Under 16’s got back on the winners list in emphatic fashion with a huge win over Boort. 10 goals to Nathaniel Holmes Brown in his first game back for Charlton from injury helped set up the big win while Matt Sarre and Trent Cossar kicked four apiece. Todd Sheahan, Jasper Walsh and Connor Hooper Mckenzie also impressed in the victory.
The Under 13’s came up against a strong Boort outfit and despite their four quarter endeavour, couldn’t match it with the Magpies on this occasion. Caleb Good, Darby Fitzpatrick, Oscar Bourke, Angus Johnstone, Patrick Soulsby and Patrick Sait all had strong games.
