grade players, Claire Edwards, Mickayla Ward, Renee Pilkington and Kate Jeanes will not be rejoining the Eagles in 2016. However, Kath Knott, Julia Woolley and Maddy McMahon will don the black and red for this season.
“After making grand finals for A, B, C and u19s in 2015, the club is looking to continue to build and push for a place in finals once again.” States Jason Woolley, who will once again take on the Head Coach position alongside fellow Newtown coaches Kyle Dohnt and Michelle Sammut in 2016.
After a stand out first season at Newtown in 2015, Sophie Barr will be one to watch this season, with her flexibility to play both midcourt and goals.
“A number of juniors have also stepped up into the senior ranks, so we will be looking at them to both develop and contribute in 2016.” Woolley says.
Jess Harcombe, after a number of strong performances at junior level, will push up into the senior sides for 2016. The Eagles will look to combine Harcombe with experienced gaolers Julia Woolley, Kath Knott, and Jaymie Lowe.
Jason Woolley is confident in how the Eagles are tracking in preparation for round 1, stating that “there is a good atmosphere around the training track, as the girls start to transition from fitness and skill development into match play. The girls have a few upcoming practice games against local clubs, which will be a good stepping stone heading into the upcoming season”
