NEWTOWN & Chilwell captain Dan Feery remains a chance to play in 2016 after resuming running following a serious back injury.
Feery, who skippered the Eagles to just their second grand final since 1986 last year, is yet to kick a ball in anger after his C5 and C6 discs burst while on holiday in Tasmania, compressing the nerve in his right arm, as well as touching his spinal cord.
There was some discussion that he wouldn’t play at all this year, but coach Damien Christensen remains hopeful.
“Dan’s running and he’s pain free,” Christensen said.
“He’s just got to build his base and start doing some ballwork over the next couple of weeks.”
However, there is no timeframe set for Feery’s return.
“I think it’s about his body and his confidence,” Christensen said.
“Hopefully, as we get to the bye, in that last six-week period, we can see Dan playing some footy.”
