In football news last weekend we banked two wins from the four matches against St Arnaud. The Seniors had a close battle against the Saints for the first half before an 11 goal to 4 second half enabled us to secure a 58 point victory. Ben Walklate’s field kicking was elite and he helped set up plenty of attack. The backline was again miserly toward their opponents with Daniel Thiesz, Tom Finlay and Kieran Sait continually repelling attacks by the Saints. Tim Nicolson was excellent in the ruck and around the ground, managing to also kick two goals. The forward line was effective with Joe McGrath and Cody Gunn kicking 11 between them, while James Baird and Shane Rogan were damaging with their gut running and ball winning ability.
The Reserves took three quarters to shake off a determined Saints side but were able to run out 30 point winners with a strong last term. Nathan King had plenty of the ball through the middle as did Josh and Zane Sullivan. Jack Thompson was our most potent forward, kicking four goals. Jye Sandiford was all class on his return to the field from a knee injury.
The Under 16’s came up against the undefeated Saints and on this occasion the Saints prevailed by 45 points. The Navy Blues fought the game out and were able to win the last quarter but a six goal second term to the Saints helped them set up their win. Trent Cossar was busy across half back all day. He was well assisted by Jed Thompson, Sam Postlethwaite, Zac Tauali i, Wally Townsend and Nathaniel Holmes Brown who kicked four goals.
In the Under 13’s the Saints were too strong for our Junior Navies. Again our boys fought the match out to the very end and didn’t lose any admirers. Pat Soulsby, Ned Zagame, Nick Thompson, Pat Sait, Jack Collins and Caleb Good were all amongst the players who had solid four quarter efforts.
