It's all about Angel!
249 senior games for the Tigers, two senior premierships a B.O.G. medal in the 2011 flag win, former club captain, 3 times senior runner up best and fairest, 5 time senior best utility, 2 time senior leading goal kicker and the second youngest life member in the history of the club nearly sum up the footy career of Tiger champion Brett 'Angel' Duke who on Saturday will play his 250th senior game for the Noosa Tigers.
I state “nearly” because the input this bloke has made at the Tigers should not be underestimated. Angel was a Tiger junior where the only way he could be separated from his twin brother “Evil” was by the fact that on game day he kicked with his left foot.
“Angel” was a standout junior also and was an integral member of the Tigers first under 18 premiership coached by the late Wayne Dover back in 1998. His senior career began the same year and eighteen years on the old man river continues to compete the way he always has. His competitiveness is his greatest strength. “Angel” had always hated losing and in particular letting an opponent beat him. Whilst his footy smarts and skill level were always first class at all levels it was his will to get himself into the contest that has made him such a champion for almost two decades. Ofcourse the fact the Angel is a top bloke who loves a good time doesn't hurt his cause either. This writer had the pleasure of playing alongside “Angel” up forward for several years and even then his competitiveness to out score even his own teammate was mind boggling. As mentioned earlier Angel won the leading goal kicking 2 times with only one individual ahead of him (me). But in all serious “Angel” Duke was one of the most dominant players in the Pineapple Hotel Cup during the 2000s and still today in the last month or so has shown just why so many of his peers rate this bloke so highly.
Do yourself a favour and get down to Weyba Rd and help celebrate this champion Tigers 250th game as the Tigers face a must win match against Moreton Bay.
Well done from everyone at the Tigers “Angel” and no doubt the Noosa boys will lift for you on Saturday.
Cheers Pittsy
