Last Saturday, the CFC headed across to Donald. Our football sides were able to secure two wins from the four matches played. The seniors jumped out of the blocks with a blistering opening term, kicking six straight. Like all good sides Donald counter attacked and kicked four goals to two across the next two quarters. Pleasingly, our boys were able to rally in the last and kick four more to secure a 35 point win. Andrew Hooper played his first game for 2016. Mick Laffin played his 150th Charlton FC match. The win was a genuine team effort with every player contributing on the day.
The Reserves came up against the top side and Donald showed why they are the bench mark in the two’s. A tight contested game saw Donald hold the advantage for most of the day and run out 11 point victors. Tyson Tauali I continues to impress down back and Tom Finlay had his third full run post knee surgery. The young brigade in Jack and Jed Thompson, Marcus Campbell and Michael Soulsby were all handy.
The Under 16’s were good enough to turn a five point deficit at the last break into a 14 point win with a strong come from behind win. Nathaniel Holmes Brown is now second on the league goal kicking after another five majors. Charlie Patullo, Griffen House and the Postlethwaite brothers were others to impress in a good team performance.
The Under 13’s were on the receiving end of a defeat against the top of the ladder Royal Blues. Again our boys fought the game out to the very end and there was even an unofficial re-match on the hill at Donald during the Senior game! Not sure of the official score but it was great to see so many youngsters running around kicking the footy. Plenty of our Under 13’s would’ve slept well that night!
