The under 13 boys showed character in a four goal draw, whilst the under 14’s consolidated their recent run of wins with an outstanding display. The under 15’s did not reach their recent heights and the under 18’s played a very good game but came off second best against the league leaders.

Under 13’s
Once again the youngest GFC team started slowly and looked flat against a dynamic opponent, Peninsula Strikers. Consequently, they were punished early by a great strike. The boys responded magnificently when a fine Manny Scarlett run and shot was poked in on the rebound by Kishen Parekh. The goal gave the team impetus and they went in at half time on top.

Gippsland’s come back from being down was completed after Julian Colantuono finished off confidently after a good save from the keeper. The Strikers equalised from another good strike and Antony Katiforis defended excellently to prevent the visitors taking the lead.

The boys showed great character to recover from being behind and a 2-2 draw was a fair reflection of the game.

Scarlett stood out in the first half in an even team effort.

Under 14’s
The boys are the form team in the club at the moment. They enjoyed a resounding 7-0 victory against a gallant Sandringham FC outfit.

Gippsland were switched on from the first whistle and were rewarded with an early Daniel Gatpan header. From then on the boys controlled the game with further strikes from Adam Semple, Manny Lual, Connor Dastey (2) and Blake Zimora.

The pleasing aspects of the performance were their good lead up play, movement and the way they controlled the game for long periods of time. The last ten minutes of play were particularly impressive.

Jesse Buhagiar & Blake Zimora played a fine game in defence. They were backed up by the power of Connor Dastey and Adam Semple controlled the front line well.

Under 15’s
After impressing recently, the boys didn’t bring their best game to the office and were beaten by Endeavour United FC 1-2.

The team conceded two early goals and were never really in the hunt after that.

A late goal to Zeb McLeod did not hide a disappointing loss for the boys which they will be keen to rectify next week.

Isaac Boulton and Callum Slade were both outstanding performers for the home team.

Under 18’s
The best performance of the day was not matched by the result. Gippsland FC was defeated 1-3 by top of the table Doveton SC in a result that disappointed the home team as they clearly were the better performers on the day.

Doveton opened the scoring after some hesitant defending by the hosts. A very even affair unfolded with few scoring chances, before Nelson Tombra hit a fine strike to bring the boys level.

Again indecisive defending was the cause of a goal for Doveton, the defence failing to protect John Beamer in goals. GFC then hit the post and undeservedly went in down 1-2 at the break.

The home team kept the league leaders penned in their own half for the first 15 minutes of the second half but were caught on the end of a sucker punch by some quick, counter attack by the visitors.

Gippsland continued to dominate but wasted some very good free kick opportunities around the edge of the box, failing to even test out Doveton’s keeper, with some sprayed shots.

Tombra continued to torment the visitors defence and forced a fine save from their keeper. Chris Oulton also played a solid game.

This week’s matches – 29 May, 2016
The boys are split home and away this week. The under 13’s and 18’s are away to Endeavour United SC and the under 14’s play against Berwick City SC in Trafalgar at 12.15pm, followed by the under 15’s playing the same opponent at 1.30pm.
