Hi Bomber Fans!
Round 7 was the second of the Cross Conference Matches and saw the Bombers travel up to Round Mountain to take on the Tigers from Grafton. As it turns out we had best include some maps for future visits to Round Mountain as it appears some people who thought they knew the location we slightly off. That aside, we got blokes there and were ready to go for the early 11:30am start.
It was what can be considered a rinse-repeat for the Bombers from the opening bounce. We have started every game strongly from the middle all season and Saturday was no different. Kris Davis feed the midfield consistently and the boys started to work their plays. When Grafton were able to secure some ball and move it forward, our back line once again stood tall and set the foundation for some serious counter attack.Nick Lohman and Luke Cornwell working well to keep that roll forward and Jesse Leeds finding his range early to the goals.
The first quarter ended - Ballina 5-7-37 to Grafton 0-0-2.
The second quarter was the epitome of excellence in execution for the Bombers. Newcomer, Matt Rath enjoyed a great welcome with 3 goals in this term, while Chris (Chook) Stevens was everywhere. Even perpetual backman Will Ward found his way on to the scoreboard as the Bombers put on 9 goals in this term and kept Grafton scoreless with excellent contributions from Leigh Hair and Roy Dunnett.
Half time score - Ballina 14-11-95 to Grafton 0-0-2.
The third term moved back in to more of a wrestle, although Grafton were still denied a major for the third straight quarter with a powerful back line display. Sam Kennedy and Jack Cornwell continued to provide good ruck support around the ground, while Rowan Fajerman continued on his way towards a best on ground performance. Tim Price continued to escalate kicking 3 of his eventual 7 goals in this term and ensuring he registered on the board in every quarter.
The third quarter ended - Ballina 17-19-121 to Grafton 0-3-3.
The final term saw Jesse Leeds rack up three more majors while also splitting the webbing in on his hand. Grafton managed to make the full journey down to their scoring end and knocking up their only major for the game. At the other end the Bombers started to get a little wayward with their shots, despite 6 majors in the last, 16 minors in the last half meant it could have been an even larger score. Joe Ward kept his highly consistent season form going while Aaron Grist continued to settle back in to the rhythm of the game in his second hit out.
The final score -
Ballina 23-27-165
Grafton 1-3-9
Goal Kickers - Tim Price 7; Jesse Leeds 6; Matt Rath 3; Chris Stevens 2; Rowan Fajerman 1; Aaron Grist 1; Ryan Seymour 1; John Vincent 1; William Ward 1.
Best Players - Rowan Fajerman, Chris Stevens, Jesse Leeds, Joe Ward, Matt Rath, Aaron Grist.
Next round will see the Bombers take on Competition Leaders in a much anticipated re-match on Friday 27th May at Byron Bay. This will be a fantastic match so get your supporter pants on and head up to Byron Bay to watch the best two teams in the League go head to head!
