The 14th May saw Boort travel over to Charlton Park. Our football sides were able to come away with the points in three of the four games played.
In the Seniors, the Magpies started strongly out of the middle and peppered their forward line. This saw them take a 5 point lead into the first break. A four goal to two second term by the Navies allowed us to establish a narrow 12 point lead at the main break with the assistance of Tim Nicolson’s work around the ground. Matt Giri was providing a dangerous target up forward along with Gunn and Joe McGrath. Ben Walklate gave plenty of drive in his 150th outing in the Navy Blue jumper. The last break saw the same margin the Navies way as the Magpies stuck fast and refused to say die. Kicking to the club rooms end in the last, the Navy Blues were finally able to break the shackles and kick 9.2 to 2.3 and run out 53 point winners. Luke Kyriakides again displayed tenacious form while the gut running and marking of James Baird was influential in the final term. Dean McKay and Daniel Thiesz led from the front down back and Shane Rogan’s tackling was a highlight.
The Reserves were matched early by a determined and experienced Boort outfit. The backline was under pressure early with plenty of Boort forward entries but Tyson Tauali I, Joe Durie, Tom Finlay, Danny Wright and Ryan Moloney repelled plenty of attack. The final three quarters saw the Navies kick ten goals to three after Coach Jake Lanyon and Assistant Viv Cossar asked for a greater work rate. This response saw the Navy Blues set up a 55 point win in Andrew McGurk’s 200th game as they head towards a top of the table clash with Donald. A string of 50 metre penalties was a negative to come out of the game and something the side will need to address.
The Under 16’s continued their winning ways with a convincing win over a Magpie side which never gave in despite the scoreline. Conor Lee and Nathaniel Holmes Brown kicked ten goals between them while Will Fitzpatrick chipped in with a couple of majors in another strong team performance. The Charlton boys were able to gain a bit of percentage with a 108 point victory. Charlie Patullo, Jed Thompson and Ziah Tauali i were named amongst the better players on the day.
The Under 13’s topsy turvy season rolled on after a good win against Wyche last match. This time a strong Boort side had the better of our junior Navies on the day. Our boys were able to hold Boort scoreless in the third term with their determination which is always evident. Boort were able to secure a 47 point win. The coaches adjudged Caleb Good, Bailey Dixon, Fletcher Holmes Brown, Ned Zagame, Brodie Grylls and Jackson Zagame to all have had strong performances.
