Last Saturday we headed up the road to Wycheproof to tackle the inform and accurate Demons. The Seniors had a battle against the Demons and we were able to take a four point lead in at the main break. The second half highlighted some superior skill work going forward by the Demons and while we were still in the game at the last break, early last term goals to WNFC saw them gain the upper hand and run out deserving 34 point winners to inflict our first loss so far. Our boys have a chance to re-bound this week. Shaun Bowles, Ben Walklate, Daniel Thiesz and Luke Kyriakides were among our more impressive players over four quarters.
The reserves continued their winning form despite a slow start. The return of Tom Finlay after a knee reconstruction was a highlight. Tom looked like he hadn’t missed a beat and racked up touches all day. The Wyche defence was strong and our boys found it hard to penetrate early on the scoreboard but a grinding effort saw the Navies finally take control of the game to run out 34 point victors. Sean O’Connor’s run and carry game was impressive while Josh Sullivan and Damien McIntyre again impressed.
A nail biter of a game took place in the 11.10 game between the WNFC and CFC Under 13’s. Our boys kicked two goals in the first term to take the early lead but Wyche pinched the lead back at half time by two points. A ding dong battle ensued in the second half and the junior Navy Blues played their hearts out in the final term to regain the lead and hang on by five points to secure their first win in 2016! A well deserved win and credit to the boys, their coaches and parents.
