Well done City U16's - an awesome win to really steamroller Cardiff into submission. After three really close Grand Finals between the same two teams over the last 5 years and not a win to our credit, the boys came out tonight, their 4th Grand Final encounter, and finally bagged the sweetest Premiership, by kicking 16 goals to Cardiff's tally of four.
Sam Payne was awarded Captain for this game, a great honour for Sam in his seventh and last season of Junior Football, and was ably assisted by the 'gang of deputies', sorry, the leadership group! - Mat Bailey, Josh Nesbitt, Mitch Rawson and Jake Miosge. This leadership group of senior U16's have really led by example all year and have helped bond a great team of new and home grown 'footy stars' that literally wiped out all comers this year.
Mathew Bailey was named 'Best on Ground' in the Grand Final for a really inspirational performance all game. The passion and commitment for the footy shown by Mat, despite having spent all day sick with the flu, was amazing. He was here, there and everywhere, seemingly all at once, and truly deserved the Best on Ground honours. Well done Mat.
The whole team played as a great team, and everyone, whether on the field or on the bench, contributed to this great win in 2007. Well done Darren, Greg and Dean for all the hard work coaching, running and managing this year - the boys and parents appreciate your dedication.
Well done everyone, and also thanks to the great crowd who came out and supported the boys, big big thank you to the City Junior Committee, Broni and Neil, and the Juniors' parents who worked so hard all night in the canteen. I'll get a detailed list later.
GO BLUES !!!
