Aspley midfielder James Ives is the new leader of the NEAFL MVP Award after polling the maximum 10 votes against Sydney University on Saturday.
The 22-year-old guided the Hornets to a 43-point victory with 32 disposals, seven clearances, seven inside 50s, five rebound 50s and a goal to leapfrog teammate Matthew Payne into top spot on the leaderboard.
The former Queensland Under-16s and Under-18s captain was playing just his fifth game after returning from a two-year knee injury.
Only three matches were played in Round 5, but all produced maximum 10-vote performances.
NT Thunder star Cameron Ilett was awarded the most votes in his side’s 13-point win over the GIANTS at Spotless Stadium.
Ilett joined the Top 10 Leaderboard after his efforts in collecting 30 disposals, 13 tackles and seven clearances.
Adam Tomlinson (seven votes) moved into fourth, level with teammate Sam Reid (two votes), who jumped into first on the NEAFL Goalkicking Leaderboard after booting three goals.
Sydney utility Dean Towers stole the show in the Swans’ 110-point thrashing of Brisbane with 25 disposals, 10 tackles, four clearances, six inside 50s and five goals.
Harry Marsh (four votes) maintained his place inside the Top 10.
The NEAFL MVP votes are cast on a 5-4-3-2-1 basis. As such, the maximum amount of votes a single player can earn per match is 10 - courtesy of the maximum five votes from both umpires and coaches.
The progress of the MVP voting is published on neafl.com.au for the first 16 rounds of the season, but withheld from that point on until the winner is revealed at the end of season awards night.
