The elimination semi in Tamworth is a local derby between the Ross and The Swans. There is no love lost between the two clubs and because it is the end of the season for the loser this will be a no holds barred contest. The Roos are coming off a narrow loss to the Muswellbrook Cats in Muswellbrook last weekend where as the Swans had a big win over the Eagles in Narrabri. The Swans will be buoyed by the naming of Lachlan Rowlings as the leagues best and fairest player for 2007 and he will be one of the keys to the outcome of this game. Overall the Roos have been the more consistent of the two teams through the season and I think they will be too tough for the reigning premiers to overcome. I'm tipping the Roos in a close finish.
The second match this weekend sees the New England Nomads traveling to Muswellbrook to take on the Cats. This winner will take on the Saints next week in the Major Semi and the loser will get another bite at the cherry. The Nomads struggled at home against a gallant Tamworth Roos whereas The Cats put the rest of the semi-finalists on notice with a thumping win against the Gunnedah Bulldogs. Both teams are seasoned finals campaigners but I think the Cats with Stuart McAdam winning the leagues leading goal kicker award will have too much fire power for the Nomads who have struggled for consistent form in the run home to the finals. I'm tipping the Cats at home in a comfortable win.
The Inverell Saints have the week off to prepare for the major semi-final in Inverell next weekend.
