A good weekend on the ground with two wins and a narrow defeat. The seniors
travelled to Toorak Park to face fellow Division 1 residents in Prahran. A
seven goal to four first term was a great start with debutante Nick Mercuri
slotting a major with his first kick in senior footy. The Two Blues hit
back in the second stanza to close the gap at the major interval. A solid
third term with the southerly breeze was required and delivered with some
clever forward work from Michael Nitas. Would 29 points be a big enough
gap, Prahran went hard early but 2-7 for the term told the story and the
Friars were able to get a couple at the other end. Glenn Ibbott stood out
in defence not only negating his opponent but providing great run and
delivery.
The reserves were on top most of the day as Rowan Mattinson made a return
and commanded the ruck duels. Heading into oranges with a 31-point lead
there was no reckoning for the turnaround. It began with the Northerly
shifting south and then the Friars being completely unable to penetrate
through the Two Blues defence. Suffice to say a shattering loss.
The Under 19s faced a determined Old Trinity keen to break down any Friar
attacks. Eventually the lads got on top driven by the hard running of Carl
Giovannini and despite the poor conversion to run out 23 point victors.
