This weekend v Kalangadoo, the Mount Burr United Football Club congratulates Matt Osmond on 200 senior games.
Beginning his playing career in 2001 with the senior colts team it didn’t take long for Matt to taste success, winning the senior colt premiership in 2002.
In 2003 he started playing senior football, and chalked up a few seasons in the A Grade team before settling in as a regular Reserves player for the last decade or so. ‘Ossie’ has experienced football in most of the positions available on the ground, but the majority of his playing time has been spent on the ball or centre half forward.
Being a strong presence up forward, Matt loves playing anywhere in the forward line and has no trouble finding the goals, which could be the reason why was the leading Reserves goalkicker for the club in no less than five seasons. Other accolades Matt has accumulated at Mount Burr include Runner-up Reserves Best & Fairest in 2003, Most Consistent in 2010, and premierships in 2002 (senior colts), 2007 and 2010 (both Reserves).
Any premiership is memorable, but ‘Ossie’ recalls the 2002 premiership as his favourite — being 37 points down at 3/4 time, Mt Burr powered home to come away with the win over Hatherleigh by 3 points.
This season Matt has been named Co-Vice Captain of the Reserves team, and reflecting on his time at Mount Burr he said he has enjoyed the past 15 years playing footy with his mates, and would like to thank all the coaches and anyone else that has helped him throughout that time. His advice for junior players is to ‘always give 100%’.
Congratulations on your 200th game Matt, well done!
