Maroochydore were in all sorts deep into the second quarter against the old foe at the weekend. Noosa spent the previous 50 minutes dominating the play and held a 47 to 9 point lead over a rattled Maroochydore and things looked ominous for the Roo Boys.
Two late goals to the Roos brought the margin back to 30 points however having kicked only 3 goals to half time (two in the last few minutes too), it would have to be a remarkable turnaround to salvage the game at that stage.
However, what happened in the 3rd quarter had supporters from both sides amazed. Led by back pocket Sammy Nelson, the Roos piled on 10 goals to Noosa's 3 and went into the final break with a 15 point lead. Nelson kicked 3 himself and seemed to have his hand in everything as the Roos took advantage of a strong south easterly.
However, with Noosa kicking with the breeze in the last, it was always going to be an exciting final stanza. And, like countless other clashes between the two clubs over their 40 year rivalry, it delivered.
Noosa fired the first shot within the first two minutes to bring the margin down to 7 points, before former Roos captain James Page cancelled it out with a goal at the 7 minute mark.
Noosa again fired back with back-to-back goals to cut the margin to just 5 points half way through the last and the game was on a knife edge. But Maroochydore responded yet again with another two, inlcuding a crowd-pleasing goalsquare hanger to human highlight reel Jacob Simpson.
In the end it was a 15 point victory to the Roos and another classic clash between the two clubs (there's another two in the H&A season too).

The reserve grade Roos locked into a good old fashion arm wrestle against the team that knocked them out iin a prelim in 2015, with inaccurate kicking in the second quarter (1.6) failing to reward the Roos' hard work. However, the boys relcaibrated the radar at half time to kick 6.1 for the rest of the match and run out three-and-a-half goal winners.
Brendan Fair again rose to the challenge of a Noosa clash and controlled a very solid Maroochydore backline, while a bullocking Macca was excellent for the second game in a row.
In the earlier clash, the Colts responded to a rare half time rocket from coach Paul Meehan to pile on 8 goals to Noosa's 1 after the main break to take a comfortable victory once they pulled their finger out. Wade Nelson and Lochie O'Toole leading the charge.
And while all this was going on, down at Fisherman's Rd, the club's first ever Senior Women's Football team ran out for the first time and took home a victory with a 5 goal win over Jindalee.
And to round out a huge weekend for the club, the Roos Thirds kicked 4 final quarter goals (and into a stiff breeze) to snatch victory from Nambour.
