The most controversial finals game that Vermont has ever been involved with was the 1986 Preliminary Final. A goal kicked by two time Chandler Medal winner, Geoff Cooper, in the second quarter was in error credited to Scoresby. One umpire got it wrong and then convinced the othe umpire he was wrong. This error was mirrored on the scoreboard all day, regardless of countless protests by our runner, then after by our officials.
East Ringwood, who were in the Grand Final kindly provided a video of the game that would have proved that a mistake had been made. That in fact was not needed, as the umpires owned up to what had happened. The game was eventually awarded to Vermont. We went on to soundly defeat East Ringwood in the Grand Final.
Coach Graeme Renwick and Captain Bruce Brunton proudly hold up the 1986 Premiership Cup.
