WEST Preston-Lakeside continued its unbeaten start to the 2016 season with a 101-point demolition of Lower Plenty at J.E. Moore Park in Round 2.
The Roosters led from start to finish and kicked 15 goals to two after quarter time to run away 21.18 (144) to 6.7 (43) victors.
In just his second game for the club, Patrick Karnezis slotted five majors and was named in the best, along with former captain Shaun Gannon, who was influential through the middle of the ground.
“(Karnezis) has been a great addition to the side along with Rhett Jordon and our ex-captain Shaun Gannon was incredible today as well,” Leigh Cole said following the win.
Karnezis was one of 11 goal kickers for the Roosters, with Nathan Valladares slotting four majors while Carl Adams, Jacob Ramaekers and Joseph Tegart all kicked two apiece.
Neither side was able to hit the scoreboard early, as the ball went end-to-end before Karnezis broke through for the first major.
That goal began a scoring rush, with the Roosters kicking four goals to two in the space of eight minutes.
Both sides traded goals late in the first term before a 60-metre Karnezis goal extended the margin to 15 points at the first break.
The second quarter was a sea of blue, white and red as the Roosters kicked the only five goals of the quarter to take a 46-point lead into the main break.
Much like the first quarter, neither side was able to take control early in the third quarter, before Joseph Tegart kicked his first goal for the home side, prompting a quick reply from Blake Poyser.
Leigh Cole’s men kicked the next five goals, bookended by two Valladares goals to extend the margin out to 80 points at the final change.
Cole asked his troops to continue the pressure in the final term, and they did just that, something he highlighted post-match.
“I think last week we had patches where we played good footy and were able to pressure the opposition, but today it was just a constant for us,” Cole said.
The Roosters were unrelenting in the final term, smothering and tackling continuously, resulting in the first four goals of the term.
Jacob Ramaekers kicked his second to push the margin beyond 100 points before Poyser kicked a consolation goal to give himself two for the day.
Poyser was the only multiple goal scorer for the Bears, as four other slotted singles.
Ramaekers and Luke Lirosi were both among the Roosters best, with Lirosi again impressive following his two-goal display against Whittlesea last week.
Tom Keys and Kallum Hinchcliffe fought gallantly for the Bears all day.
West Preston-Lakeside will hope to continue its unbeaten start when it travels to Bill Lawry Oval in Round 3 to face Northcote Park.
Lower Plenty will look for its first win of the season when it hosts Whittlesea, where the Eagles will also be looking to secure their first points of 2016.
Final score: West Preston-Lakeside 21.18 (144) def Lower Plenty 6.7 (43)
