Hello South West Tigers Community,
as most would be aware, the AFL have a ANZAC Day themed match every year between Collingwood Magpies and Essendon Bombers. Additionally, all games across the weekend have an element of commemoration to ANZAC Day.
Next weekend is Round 3 of our junior competition and also happens to be the day before ANZAC Day.
The Tigers have their origins as a team raised mostly by local defence force members 40 years ago and there are a large number of defence families involved in the club to this day. Accordingly, we have been lucky enough to have all teams playing at home at Greenway Park in an ANZAC Day themed round of football.
Games will start early with the Under 9s and Under 11s at 0800, Under 10s and Under 12s at 0930, Under 13s and Under 15s at 1100 with the final match being the Under 17s at 1230. All Auskickers are invited to attend as well to enjoy the extra activities. We will have the GWS Fanzone, G-Man and Legacy Australia helping out on the day.
This is a big day for the club and the Under 15s parents are volunteering to help on the day in all roles but feel free to offer a hand in any way you can. I know all the usual willing horses will be there to get whipped! Call Kellie Hohnen on 0414 506 011 if you want to help out.
Also, once we finish our games, our senior club the South West Sydney Magpies are having a similar event at 12 Stroud St Rosedale Oval in Warwick Farm. They are having 3 games of senior football played there at 1300, 1500 and 1800. They will be having a ANZAC commemorative service in between the 2nd and 3rd games. All of the Tiger community are invited to this as well.
