Welcome Back Bomber Fans!
Well the season is back and The Bombers kicked it off in grand style as the boys took on Lismore Swans at Lismore on Saturday.
The boys have been working hard in the pre-season with a lot of new faces joining some well established one and it paid off. The game started extremely strongly with big Kris Davis dominating in the ruck from the very first bounce. He was ably assisted throughout the day by club stalwart Sam Kennedy and newcomer Jack Cornwell to really own the hit outs. The midfield did a great job containing the ball and began working through the structures developed during training.
It was a great back and forth first quarter with Ballina going to the first change 2-3-15 just ahead of Lismore's 2-1-13.
The second quarter showed much the same result. The Bombers continued to work hard on their plans but it was clear the early stage of the season meant that execution was still in progress. Three more of our new faces started to show their class, however, as Rory Walton, Chris Stevens and Colin O'Brien started to steer the ball more in our direction. Our back line were again in form ensuring the rebounded balls made there way back up the ground. The second quarter ended a draw though with Ballina 5-5-35 to Lismore's 5-3-33.
It was the third quarter that the shackles were broken and the fluid play really started to cut through the Lismore defenses. Our own defence was outstanding keeping Lismore to just the one goal for the quarter. While at the other end we started to put them through with Tim Price having a blinder with the boot for the first hit out. Again more new faces started to show their worth with Harley Schmidt, Adam Johnston, Michael Sawyer and Roy Dunnett all working in as if they had played together for years. By the end of the premiership quarter Ballina had extended to 10-7-67 to Lismore's 6-4-40.
The final quarter was a repeat of the third. With Tim Price continuing to dominate up front, Rowan Fajerman and Joe Ward running freely through the middle and a continued strong defensive line managed by Jacob McPherson at the back. Everytime the ball looked like making it to the Swan's forward 50 it was jumped on and rebounded back out. The siren sounded and the final score in Ballina's favour stood:
Ballina 16-8-104
Lismore 7-6-48
Goal Kickers - Tim Price 7, Colin O'Brien 2, Nick Lohman 2, Rory Walton 1, Jack Cornwell 1, Joe Ward 1, Sam Kennedy 1, Roy Dunnett 1.

Next week see's us at Home being the first to host the Cross Conference double headers. Ballina will be going up against Coffs Harbour Breakers at 2:00pm, who will no doubt be looking to settle up after their loss to the Bombers in our pre-season hit-out. Being a double header there will also be a game starting at 11:00am which will see Byron Bay take on Sawtell -Toormina. So get on down for a day out at the footy and support not only the Bombers, but also the local footy competition.
Go Bombers!
