3 inches of rain on a hard and dry Powelltown oval the day before threatened to cancel the Practice match. In the end the rain softened the ground up nicely and the two games went ahead. Initially under drizzling, winter like conditions but fining up in the afternoon. The Reserves/Under 19’s hit off at midday with Bailin Searle and Jack young doing as they please. Big Pratty rucked well, and Noodles was busy up forward. Biddy after missing one right in front ‘snapped’ a miraculous goal to the cheers of his team mates.
The senior game started off at a frantic pace, but was very scrappy with many turnovers from both sides. Powelltown made a very strong start and were on top initially, but poor kicking let them down. Once Panton hill settled into the game, our more skilful players started to come into the game setting up Tommy Blake with a few goals to take the advantage. Conte, Dines, Parks, Duckworth were good, and Brycey showed everyone how much he missed his football last year with some hard, courageous attacks on the ball. Captain for the day, Trav Miller led the boys with his typical fearless pressure and tackling. The Freeman twins combined regularly, often confusing the supporters as to which one was which. They were both busy all day, racking up loads of possessions between them.
Panton Hill ran out eventual winners. Thanks to Powelltown for their hospitality during and after the game. The bus ride home was very enjoyable. Many thanks to our Sponsor, Wandong Coach and Bus, for the supply of the bus for the day, and the very entertaining driver, Karin.
The boys will be at training Monday and Wednesday again this week, returning to the usual Tuesday and Thursday nights after the Easter break. In the meantime, we wish all our members, sponsors and supporters and a safe and happy Easter.
