Sergeant Gidds says 'Game on'
We're now at the business end of the season and the final 5 has really starting to shape up as the Woodend Hesket Football and Netball Clubs lock down into a Guerrilla Warfare against all opposition clubs. It's time to lace up the brown leather boots, army pants and jumper, the reliable bullet proof vest and the rock hard helmet accompanied with one weapon of choice... a football or a netball... and you can't head into battle without your brown and gold face paint and some good hard rocking music... some prefer 'Eye of the Tiger'... others prefer 'Dancing Queen'... whatever gets your blood running because round 14 of the Home and Away season could be the most defining round this club will face this season... this week's mission, "Attack of the Borough"... task, license to win by all means necessary.
Let's lay out the real hard objective of what we're dealing with here against such feisty opposition:
Netball B:- A win against the top team could lock them in the top 5, a must win battle.
Netball A:- A win against the top 2 contender will lock them in the top 5 and they can start looking to September with wide eyes and licking lips
Under 18's:- Outside Romsey, they're facing the biggest threat and a win can see the Borough spiral out of the top 4
Reserves:- Bitter sweet revenge is on the mind of every player who played in Fish's last game as the only blemish on the season's tally fell at the hands of the Borough, revenge couldn't be sweeter by knocking off the 2nd placed Boroughs on their home battle field.
Seniors:- Forget the climax to season 2006, the real game is here. Knock off the Boroughs at home and Kilmore topple Sunbury and the Boroughs hopes are dashed. Sergeant Gidds has acknowledged and awaited on their improvement, but we have the biggest guns of the competition in the middle, the strongest fire power up forward in all the land, the thumping torpedoes of Warren 'Plugga' Else's boot from the backline... we don't have an army... we have world domination at our finger tips. The time is to go out and finish the job and reign on Diggers Rest parading run to the finals with the full force of the Hawk.
Onto lighter notes, Bravery medals are being handed out left, right and centre to much deserving players as Scott Graham is on the verge of making an outstanding recovery from a devastating clash at Macedon last Saturday. Coming off second best in a marking contest, Scott received a knock to the ribs and a dislocated finger. Struggling to breathe, he was taken to Hospital to be diagnosed with cracked ribs and a punctured lung. Reports have it that the left lung started sinking from the top and had it proceeded to lower further around the heart, poor Scott could have been in some serious trouble but we praise his enormous fighting efforts on his recovery and in cases like these, health is more important than returning to football and we wish him all the best.
Dancing, Singing and Rocking Comedic Ric Cerminara will co-star this week in a Braemar Secondary School performance called 'Flight' at the Kyneton Town Hall from Thursday 26th- Saturday 28th, kicking off at 7:30pm. Tickets are selling fast at around $17 a head. Jump in quick to see your rugged Under 18 battler light up the stage in the biggest performance to be held at the Kyneton Town Hall this year. Call Braemar on 5427 2500! You would be insane to miss it, very much like missing a shot of the group in this week's Midland Express... very confident look Ric!
Round 13 Hawk Eye Highlights:-
*The Prez Clinton Sammut kicking yet another great goal from close range for the U18's
*Scott Graham's courage
*The 2nds score line to half time against the Centrals leading 10goals to nothing
*Liam 'Burgs' O'Meara returning to form in the number 8 guernsey in the 2nds... does the name Brett 'Guards' Gardiner ring a bell formerly the wearer of that number?
*Texan... for holding on to Liam's gear and not arriving at Lancefield to play, hence the new number for Liam.
*Matt Law's pace through the middle of the ground... I hear doorbell's ringing for senior selection
*Travis 'Legzy' Leggett... he is playing like an unknown footballer he has previously played with... Gary Ablett Jnr... has anyone heard of him? Apparently Gary learned his skills off Legzy.
*'Billie' Joel Taylor as 2nds skipper, he certainly filled the boots brilliantly
*General Muppet living up to his name at Snr level... how inspiring is he?
* Anthony 'Foxtrot' Fox... come on... we all heard that spray he gave Melton's bench... bringing back the heart of country football.
*Paul Podbury... for that specky in the forward line!
*Danny Sipthorp and Guy 'Banga' Donovan improving every week.
The Absolute Highlight of the week goes out to all the Volunteers on Saturday who helped clean, organise and prepare the Lancefield and Macedon grounds for playing. Well done to the girls who organised the 'on the road' canteen service... a tough mission at first thought but did really well... congratulations!
That's it from Hawkeye this week... have a great day at the football and netball and see the Mighty Hawks fly!
