What is almost certain is that The Inverell Saints will finish on top of the competition but the other finals positions are still wide open. The Cats looked the team most likely to challenge The Saints up until a fortnight ago but the wheels have fallen off with successive losses to The Saints and The Gunnedah Bulldogs. The Nomads have also struggled through the university holiday time so this game will be a decided by whichever team finds it's early season form. Both clubs are seasoned finals performers and will be keen to make sure they run into some form over the next few weeks starting with today's game. The Cats struggled against The Bulldogs away from home last weekend and the road trip to Armidale will tests the clubs metal. The Nomads should be boosted by the return of a number of their star players and with the home ground advantage I'm tipping The Nomads in a tight struggle.
In the local derby in Tamworth this game should be a cracker between two teams who are running into good form at the business end of the year. The Swans were pushed all the way by an improving Narrabri Eagles in Narrabri where as The Roos completely out played an under strength Nomads team last weekend. This game will be a battle of the hard nosed Roos against the young and improving Swans. I'm tipping the experienced Roos to get home but an upset here wouldn't surprise.
In the the third match this weekend The Inverell Saints will take on the improving Eagles at Varley Oval in Inverell. On form this game looks a forgone conclusion but The Eagles enjoy playing on Varley Oval and have troubled the Saints on their home ground over the past three seasons. If The Eagles bring the same side to Inverell that almost ran down The Swans last week and only lost by 9 points then the Saints will be in for a tough day at the office. The Inverell Saints could wrap up the minor premiership on Saturday and with that to play for I'm tipping The Saints.
Disko's tips: The Nomads, The Roos and The Saints.
The Bulldogs have the bye.
