A perfect day for the first Practice match of the 2016 season versus Banyule. The game was played as a six ‘quarter’ game with the first half played by predominantly under 19’s and Reserves players, with the second half being the senior sides. The scoreboard was maintained during the course of the 6 quarters, with the end result being a 1 point margin to Banyule. The practice match against Banyule has now become a tradition with the two sides meeting 3 times now, all with very close scores. Both coaches agreed at the start of the game that it was all about trialling new or different set plays, so at times the game had some interesting outcomes. The scoreboard was irrelevant however it was good to see the Redbacks peg back a 5 goal deficit once the Senior side hit the ground. All in all though both sides showed some very promising sides for this early stage of the season. New recruits Duckworth, Conte and Switkowski were rested, however Course, Parks, Young, Fiorelli etc all performed very well. Next match is an intra club match on Wednesday 9 March before travelling to Powelltown on 19 March.
A big thank you to Panton Hill Cricket Club who allowed us to use the ground on their annual reverse Draw day. It was a win-win for both clubs, with the additional players and supporters contributing to the revenue raising for the Cricket Club. Thanks to all the Panton Hill Football Club supporters who purchased tickets, food/drink to support the cricket club. It is great to see the two clubs working together!
Go Hills!
