5 May- Round 1 begins then ends in the worst possible way, three games, three losses. In what can be only described as a black day, West Preston proved that they are much better than last year, and that Monty needs to work hard if finals are the goal for 2007.
It's hard to be condemning of the performance, after all we had six more scoring shots but just couldnt kick goals when needed. If we had kicked straight then right now we would be singing the praises of the team because we would have won easily. It was just one of those days where the better team lost.
Credit must however be given where credit is due, and West took it up to Monty in a physical encounter and seemed to have the better legs to go the distance. Matt Larkin keeps his record of winning at Monty, this time however it is for the opposition. It has been a long time, if ever, that West has won all three games at Monty, and it hurts to give them the kudos they earned by beating us.
So now we look to Northcote Park next week. It has been a long time since Monty has lost first up at home, and I hope that the players are hurting and want to make ammends for the results this weekend. I know off field we will try to be better, I just hope everyone responds and takes Northcote Park to the cleaners.
