Delisted Brisbane Lions utility Jordon Bourke has joined Grand Finalists Aspley for the 2016 season.
Bourke created history as the first Brisbane academy member to graduate on to the Lions senior list when he was rookie drafted in 2013.
A member of the Lions’ 2013 NEAFL premiership side, the Bourke was delisted this year after six AFL games in two seasons.
The former Morningside junior still has aspirations of returning to the AFL, and was weighing up a move to the SANFL before deciding on the Hornets.
The 21-year-old said he is looking forward to joining his new teammates at the Hornets next week.
“I still want to get back on an AFL list and everyone said the SANFL is the best place to go. But I think wherever you go, if you play good enough there will be opportunity,” he said.
“I thought staying home where I grew up was a good idea aswell. It’s been a lengthy process deciding where I want to go but I’m excited to begin training with teammates instead of doing my own training the last two months.”
Meanwhile, the Hornets have also signed former Gold Coast Sun Jackson Allen, who returns to Queensland after a season at SANFL club Sturt.
Mitch McKee returns to Aspley from a stint in Cairns, and Will Wolbers has joined from rivals Southport.
The Hornets will start their quest for a fourth consecutive Grand Final berth when they take on the Sharks in Round 1 at Graham Rd on April 2.
