On Saturday in bright sunshine at Tulkulba Park the Newcastle City Blues were able to post three impressive wins over the Terrigal Avoca Panthers. In the Under 18's despite being low on numbers the boys recorded a comfortable 54-point victory. In First Division a 50-point win and in the Black Diamond Cup clash the Blues recorded a bumper 120-point result.
The big Black Diamond Cup clash was certainly a pleasing result for the Blues, who now hold a 5 and 1 record after the first third of the season. Courtney Knight was up to his old tricks booting 12 majors in a superb game at full forward and with Michael Kemp marking everything that came his way the Blues sent off the little Fluffy Wilmott in great style. Fluffy was able to boot a goal late in the game much to everyone's delight and his pre-match speech was only matched in brilliance by his dance moves later in the night.
The First Division juggernaut continues to roll on with the team remaining undefeated so far this season as their continue their great form from last year. BK is having a field day at present and with Big Clarkey, the Doc, Owen and Deedy in good form the side looks to be forming the nucleus of a side that will be hard to beat. Harro got the week off from Stubbsy and the veteran was bemused at having to rest his weary legs. This may just prove to be a good move by the master tactician. In his other interesting move on Saturday Stubbsy had his forward line weighing a combined total of over 600kg's at one stage, that's some big boppers! Surprisingly that didn't include the Rat or Jumping Joey Judge.
The Under 18's played superbly with limited numbers and were able to post their first win for the season. Mitch Rawson had a blinder along with Matty Bailey, James Rigby and Richard "Dicky Knee" Antney who kicked four great goals.
This week we try for Ladies Day Mark. II at Newcastle's premier AFL sporting ground, the No. 1 Sportsground with matches against Warners Bay and Lake Macquarie.
If any Blues supporters have any suggestions on keeping the surface at No.1 dry for the duration of the week, we are happy to hear from you at ncafc@hotmail.com. Moving the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service landing base to the oval has been suggested, along with a larger City Fort approx 250m x 200m or perhaps one of Fluffy's hair dryers may just do the trick.
