Bob Taylor
Originally from Nagambie Football Club, Bob played 24 games with Footscray in the VFL and eventually joined Vermont from Stanhope in 1970 as a prize recruit.
He played 83 Senior games and 15 Reserves with Vermont between 1970 and 1977 including two Grand Finals (1971 & 1973) plus two Preliminary Finals (1970 & 1974). He won the Senior Best & Fairest in the Premiership year of 1971.
Bob generally played in defence using his immaculate skills to overcome his shorter statue when playing centre half back. He was one of the very last players who could and would kick a drop kick. And kick it superbly. A class player and person in every respect.
Bob was not only a wonderful player but he got involved with off field activities when he joined the Social Committee in 1971 and then took on the role of Treasurer of that group from 1972 to 1974 and became Chairman of the Social Committee in 1975.
Getting even more involved with the administration, he moved the General Committee and was elected Club Vice President in 1976 and 1977.
Bob was made a Life Member in 1982, the same year he became Treasurer of our Eagletonians Coterie Group. He continued in that role until 1989. He was a Life Member of Eagletonians with more than 35 years Membership
Bob was very much part of most Social activities and in particular the famous Football Club Reviews held in 1983, 85 & 87.
From the time he joined Vermont in 1970, Bob and family have been totally involved. Both sons have played football as well, with Brad achieving a Senior Premiership in 1994 just like his dad.
Bobby Taylor was a genuine great bloke in every respect. An outstanding player, a friend to all and a person who loved the Vermont Football Club with a passion that saw him involved with almost every aspect. And did so a with that “country boy” honesty and smile.
We have had many wonderful contributors at Vermont , and Bob Taylor was special and certainly one of the best recruits that Vermont ever obtained.
