The EFL is looking to recruit, train and reward umpires and is seeking past or current players to take up umpiring...
For the last couple of seasons at least one of our players - Anthony Groves - has been umpiring the U9s and U10s and while it has been challenging on a couple of occasions it has mostly been rewarding.
The Blackburn Football Club has received the following from the EFL
The EFL competition has again expanded in season 2007 with one new Senior club, approximately twenty additional junior teams and six additional Colts teams.
As a result, we require additional umpires. I am requesting as a matter of importance that you advise myself or Director of Umpiring Kevin Smith of the contact details ( including phone number if possible ) of those players who you are aware are not continuing from Under 16 to Colts and from Colts to open age or are retiring.
Umpiring in the EFL is a rewarding means of extending your football interest and can provide a pathway to higher competitions. It promotes a healthy lifestyle whilst providing a means of earning extra money.
Much is being done to endeavor to continue to supply your club with an umpire for all your matches and you will see from the information I have provided below what is being undertaken at school level.
This is the fourth year the Eastern Football League has been involved with a number of schools within its area of interest.
Over this period of time Kevin has had an involvement with eleven local schools. Additionally this year Deakin University has been approached and is co-operating in regard to advertising umpiring in the EFL.
In 2007 Kevin's involvement with these schools and Deakin University has taken the form of one or more of the following activities:
· Talking at an assembly.
· Assisting in the conduct of the Basic Umpiring Course in both the class room and outdoors as part of the curriculum in our local schools.
Providing an umpire advertising notice for inclusion in the school newsletter.
Arranging the posting on notice boards of an umpire advertising poster.
The target age group at schools is fourteen to eighteen years and the program has been quite successful with some of the schools actively advertising umpiring for the EFL. One school alone provided nineteen recruits over 2005 and 2006 with others providing a steady stream of recruits.
Kevin can be contacted by email at umpdirector@efl.org.au, by phone at the EFL office of a Monday or Wednesday each week, by telephone at home on 9467 4524 or mobile anytime on 0409 437 582.
I look forward to you assisting
