Junior and senior teams from the Tuggeranong Vikings Amateur Basketball Club have just completed a very successful 2015 Winter season.

 

Below is a snapshot of several of our achievements:

 

• Of the 18 junior teams participating 7 made it into the semi-finals. Five of these teams made it through to the Grand Finals with one team going on to win the competition.
• All four premier senior teams participated in the semi-finals. Three of these teams made it to their respective Grand Finals with two teams wining the competition.

GRAND FINAL RESULTS:

SENIORS:

Premier 1 Men – Won 78-66 vs Wests Magpies

Premier 2 Men – Lost 60-61 vs Wests Magpies

Premier 2 Women – Won 53-49 vs Wests Magpies

 

JUNIORS:

U16 Boys Div3 - Won 38-33 vs Tuggeranong Southern Cross

U16 Boys Div6 - Lost 30-45 vs Daramalan College

U12 Boys Div5 - Lost 13-22 vs Belconnen Ramblers

U14 Boys Div2 - Lost 25-34 vs Belconnen Ramblers

U14 Boys Div6 - Lost 17-30 vs Canberra Grammar

 

Some notable achievements for the Basketball Club:

• Vikings once again facilitated the Canberra Southside Aussie Hoops program during the winter. Aussie Hoops is Basketball Australia’s official junior game development program for 5-9 year olds and their families. It provides an environment where children of all abilities can achieve on the court and reap the rewards of skill development, enhanced self-esteem, social co-operation and grassroots sports participation. Vikings will once again run the program during the 2015/16 summer season.
  
  
• For the first time Vikings will be fielding Under 10 Boys and Girls teams this summer season. The introduction of these teams is no doubt a result of the successful Aussie Hoops Program.  Well done to those involved in the program and welcome and good luck to the new juniors.
  
  
• An Inaugural Basketball Training Camp for Junior Boys and Girls (Under 10 to Under 19) was conducted during the school holidays at the Tuggeranong Stadium.  The camp was run over two days by Viking Senior Premier League Players and focused on all aspects of the game. The camp was well received by those that participated and plans are underway to conduct another camp during the Easter Holidays.
  
  
• A Men’s C grade team was fielded for the first time during the 2015 Winter Season.  Apart from existing senior players, the team also catered for junior players transitioning to seniors. Along with the senior Premier League and Men’s C teams it is planned to introduce Women’s C grade team to participate in the next Winter Season.  The women’s team will also cater for juniors transitioning to seniors.

The club is very proud of all the juniors and seniors that participated during the season and in particular the dedication, Sportsmanship and enjoyment shown in playing the game. 

A big thank you to all the Coaches and Managers for guiding, mentoring and organising the players throughout the season.
