The Christchurch Bulldogs will farewell one of its legends this weekend, as the immeasurable Todd Andrews prepares to play his last game in NZ before he heads back to live in Australia (well, Tasmania).
An illustrious Bulldogs career has seen him Captain, coach and for a large portion of his playing days, also running trainings. His achievements include premierships, club best and fairest, club leading goalkicker, best midfielder, and national championships with the Canterbury Cobras as captain.
This weekend will be a grand occasion, with the Terry Anderson shield on the line against the University Cougars, followed by the after-match function at the Redwood Hotel.
Past teammates are encouraged to come along at 3pm to the Redwood Hotel to share a beer and a story after the game (there is a rumour Todd plans on regaining consciousness on the Monday).
The Bulldogs wish Todd and his family all the best on his future endeavours and will happily have him back for a cameo if the opportunity ever arises. The team will not be the same without Toddy, particularly not as fit (or broken) due to preseasons he has run in the past.
The first aim is to win this weekend, then start to think about how the team will succeed in the post-Andrews era. There is heavy expectation that any Tasmanian moving to Christchurch in the future comes to the Bulldogs and shares a tale about Toddy’s sadistic training sessions.
After many years’ service the Bulldogs will have a big hole to fill, both on the field and off it. Thanks for everything Toddy.
