Sam Sheldon probably couldn’t give two hoots about his 50th game on Grand Final Day. He will be too focussed concentrating on his game and that of his team mates. However the rest of Kyabram (and the opposition) know the critical role Sam will play in deciding where the 2015 Premiership Cup will call home.
Before arriving at Kyabram, Sam had played 43 games with the Brisbane Lions, before being delisted at the end of 2012. He was recruited to the KFNC in 2013 along with his cousin Tom, who had spent 2012 playing with Nathalia. And what a year of introduction to Goulburn Valley football 2013 was for Sam. He played in the premiership for the senior team and to top off celebrations, the Under 18s had a premiership cup as well.
Off the field Sam is a relaxed, affable young lad. On the field he is highly intense and displays a great understanding of the game to match his extraordinary skills.
Sam’s influence over the results of games has gradually increased as he has come to terms with the tempo of GV footy. This culminated in a brilliant display against Benalla last weekend, where at times he appeared to have as much room as a telephone booth, but still managed to weave his magic through the opposition.
Good luck on your 50th Sammy, but better luck to adding another Premiership Medallion. We’d all love to see that.
