Under 13 Girls cruise into 2015 Grand Final

In what was the last ever game without permanent changerooms at Lara, the Under 13 Girls felt the pressures of playing finals football for the first time. By comparison, Bell Park's experienced players from many seasons and even state competitions were able to dominate the first 15 minutes. However, Lara weren't prepared to give in easily as their two highest goal scorers, Jasmine Kenyon and Jasmine Naraghi, scored 4 between them to help ease their way into the 2015 Grand Final.

Walking out for their first ever Semi Final, each of the Under 13 Girls players felt the pressure. Having won the last 4 encounters against Bell Park, one only 7 days earlier only added to expectations from the sideline that this result was inevitable. However after 15 minutes, it was Lara's goalkeeper and defenders doing most of the work. Centre Backs Hannah Gauci and Isabel Robertson were forced into clearing the ball to safety on numerous occassions in the opening quarter of the game. That did not deter Bell Park as they pushed into the box to force goalkeeper Grace Ranner into 3 early saves. Lara eventually found their run through left winger Jasmine Kenyon who looked to carry one of her trademark runs into the back of the net, however a final heavy touch saw it safely into the arms of a nervous looking Bell Park goalkeeper. Only 3 minutes later, a carbon copy. Kenyon broke past the line of midefiled, full back and centre back, having started her run from halfway, was one on one with the keeper whilst still 25 yards from home. Turning into the box and running it along the touchline, Kenyon comfortably slotted the ball into the back of the net to increase her goal tally for the season and more importantly, give Lara a crucial 1-0 lead midway through the first half.

Kenyon came into the game as Golden Boot winner with an astonishing 20 goals in only 7 games. Jasmine Naraghi finished the normal season with 9 and was determined to put her practice into play on Saturday. A beautifuly worked play between Naraghi and right winger Mollie Hill broke Bell Park open again late in the first half. Naraghi won the ball in the middle of the field and looked immediately to play it out wide to Hill and expose the Bell Park back line. Hill carried the ball to the edge of the box where she could then play in Naraghi who controlled with her first touch, and struck from 14 yards with her second, hard and low below the keeper and into the bottom left of the goals from the right of the box. Only two minutes later, Kenyon made another trademark run down the wing courtesy of a Jade Goodger ball from full back, her shot was destined to go in once again on the stroke of half time however the keeper misread and fumbled it into the back of the legs of an unsuspecting Bell Park defender as the Own Goal rolled it to make it 3-0 at the break.

The second half started as the first ended, only this time with more midfield inclusion as it became increasingly harder to break down either defence. The tireless efforts of midfielders Tahlia Wynn and Mackenzie Fletcher who had come off the bench were evident as Bell Park began to struggle to test the Lara goals. This was assisted by another substitue, Brooklyn Knight, who was determined herself to not let anything through the backline and staked a claim for a spot in the Grand Final side. It was no surprise to anyone when Jasmine Kenyon scored 5 minutes into the Second Half to make it 4-0, less surprising was that she did it again 5 minutes later to make it 5-0 and complete her hattrick. 23 goals in 8 games for Kenyon sends a warning to Surfcoast as does second highest scorer, Naraghi who took her tally into double figures, gathering 10 for the season so far.

The final 20 minutes saw a deflated and defeated Bell Park and a tired Lara side move comfortably into their long considered, inevitable fates. Lara move on to the Grand Final whilst Bell Park finish the season in third, wondering what might have been. 5 wins against Bell Park into 2015, 52 goals for the season and a 5-0 win in a Semi Final.

Final Score: Lara 5-0 Bell Park

Scorers: J. Kenyon 3, J. Naraghi, Own Goal
