With the BDAFL Grand Final just around the corner, attention is now turning to the biggest event on the umpiring calendar, the NCCUA’s Presentation Night being held at the Phoenix Showroom, Wests Mayfield on Saturday 3 September 2016.
Many of the experts are calling this the biggest event since the Academy Awards. Most are calling it ‘the Night of Nights.’ Only time will tell which of these statements are true.
The major focus will be on who will take out the NCCUA’s most converted prizes, the ‘Umpire of the Year’ and the ‘Golden Whistle’?
Speculation is rife as to whether Joseph O’Brien can win back to back Umpire of the Year awards. Can senior umpires Ashley Borg or John Sullivan take out this coveted award. Can the new recruit Patrick Lally or other young guns like Jake Bateman or Stephen Blume can take the top gong out.
Watch this web site and all will be revealed after this big event has been run and won.
Other awards given out on the night include: Field Umpire of the Year, Boundary Umpire of the Year, Goal Umpire of the Year and Club Person of the Year.
The other, and some might call prestigious awards, are given out by the ‘Special Awards Committee’ (SAC) with Plucka (Darrel Luck) at the helm. Plucka will be ably assisted by Borgy, Blind Guy and Besty in finishing the night with some fun and frivolity. Who will the SAC target this year for some special treatment? Who will live up to the high standards set by previous ‘Chucky Bucket’ award winners for chucking up?
Like many other pundits, the excitement is growing. Bring on the awards ceremony.
